I read an article last week over at Vox entitled; The weird sorrow of losing Twitter. And that made me think of my thoughts and feelings around the Elon Musk takeover.

It’s weird in a way that this text(!) service has had such a huge impact on people, plus that it has been around for longevity. So it took a minute to realize how important and trivial things have been discussed, talked about, cried over, and yes, even angry about!

So what to do? Well, I suggest you download all your information on Twitter and do it regularly.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Go to your Account settings by clicking on the more icon in the navigation bar and selecting Your account from the menu.
  2. Click on Download an archive of your data.
  3. Enter your password under Download an archive of your data, then click Confirm.
  4. Verify your identity by clicking Send code to your email address and/or phone number on file. You will be redirected to the Account Information page if you do not have an email address or phone number on file.
  5. Enter the code sent to your email address and/or phone number.
  6. After verifying your identity, click the Request data button.
  7. When your download is ready, we’ll send an email to your connected email account or push notification if you have the app installed. You can click the Download data button from your settings under the Download data section.
  8. Once you receive the email, click the Download button while logged in to your Twitter account and download a .zip file of your Twitter archive.
