My Evolution As A Notetaker/Maker
First
For the past 13 years, I have been, and still am, a prolific notetaker. It all started in 2008 when I found out about Social Media and got a beta invite to Evernote’s app. This was my first year, which in many ways was disruptive. Before this time, my notetaking depended on my current role at work.
Second
Although I was unemployed at the time, it was a good and necessary change in my life. I had to change my life and how I lived it. In the three years before 2008, I felt bored and unsatisfied. But all this opened me up to other opportunities.
Third
I started over and took notes on almost everything. I used a kind of journal and a ToDo list to manage my life. Since I hadn’t learned GTD yet, my first attempts at ‘LifeOs’ weren’t so great. These first months of journaling, to-dos, and notes gave me a digital foundation.
Fourth
At the end of 2010, I had gone digital as far as I could. My foundation was Evernote and Google Calendar. It worked well for a while. But it wasn’t enough. Automated curation seemed to be the answer. I always need more information and knowledge.
Fifth
Now, in 2022, I have done a total and disruptive change. Both in my mindset and how I make notes. My philosophy is now to have clarity and focus on those notes that generate thoughts as well as content.
I have now ditched Roam and Evernote for Scrintal and abonded Zettelkasten for my own PKM
